Unité d’Habitation

Marseille, France

The 1945-52 built "machine for living" by Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier houses 337 apartments. The roof terrace is accessible to everyone. The building complex, which is assigned to Brutalism, is designed according to the Modulor system and fascinates with its straightforward use of concrete & steel.

The photos were taken in midsummer. It is the light of this season that emphasizes how the massive roof terrace fits into Marseille's landscape of sea, mountains & city.
