IGmADe: 50+ Years of Architecture, Theory & Poiesis

The responsibility of architecture.

In 2018, the world of architecture celebrated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Stuttgart Institute for the Foundations of Modern Architecture and Design (IGmA), the first and still the largest institute for architectural theory and design in Germany. The international conference recapitulated the architectural discourse of the last 50 years in Germany. Inspired by Jürgen Joedicke's founding of the institute and his historiographical generation model, it was dedicated to questions concerning the role of institutions or generations in the architectural discourse.

The event was characterized by exciting discussions, an interested audience and a rousing exhibition. Among the participants were Stefan Behnisch, Momoyo Kaijima and Werner Durth.

For me it was very fun and instructive to be part of this event.
